This is a globular cluster in the south of Ophiuchus. In its neighborhood there are two more globulars.
As Messier objects go, this globular is of mid-size but bright providing a fine sight. It is on the verge of resolution and the surface is grainy. With averted vision it gives you an impression that faint stars are resolved, while with direct vision they are resolved only at the edges. It shows a smooth, gradual fading toward the edges.
