This is the famous M78. NGC 2071 is also easily visible nearby. Both are reflective nebulae and bright.
M78: This looks triangular with some roundness. Two sides on the south side of the triangle are diffuse, while the outline of the northern side is sharply defined. At low powers it resembles a comet. There are two stars close together. There is a faint star closeby on the south side.
NGC 2071: It is small but clearly visible. A round nebulosity surrounds a bright star at the center, but careful observation shows that the center of condensation is set off the star. It is a very interesting sight.
