This is a galaxy near the head of Cetus. It is well-known as the brightest Seyfert galaxy. Through the 50cm telescope it is not just bright but various details are visible.
There is a bright elongated core with a stellar nucleus. There are dark areas west and southeast of the core. The halo is bright and almost circular but with some elongation. Arms are not visible but an uneven surface brightness suggests clockwise spiral arms.
